Italian Grand Tour 9 days

Day 1-3 Travel by midday Eurostar from London to Paris then join the high-speed TGV to Geneva where the comfortable overnight sleeper train will take you to Rome, the “Eternal City”. Stay at the 4* boutique hotel Bailey’s, or overlook the Trevi Fountain at the 3* Fontana hotel, or the 3* Superior Corot hotel steps from Termini station. Time to visit the Coliseum and the romantic Trevi Fountain or take a city tour in a refurbished old tram.

Day 4-5 Take a morning high-speed train for the 90-minute trip to Florence. Stay at the 3* Porta Faenza (a 5 minute walk from the station) or the 4* Degli Orafi. Florence is a cradle of European culture. It is a small city with a traffic-fee area around the Duomo. Also a must see is the Uffizi and the Academia galleries for their world famous works of art.

Day 6 Take the high-speed train to Venice, arriving at the marble fronted Santa Lucia station next to the Grand canal. Take the waterbus to the quietly situated 3 star Hotel Ai Mori D’Oriente or boutique hotel Vecillio. The 4 star Hotel Hungaria Palace is a delightful confection of a building, 15 minutes away by waterbus from St Marks on the Venice Lido, the beach resort area.

Day 7 Visit St Marks Square, the Doges Palace and the Campanile, dramatically approached on the Waterbus from the Venice Lido.

Day 8-9 Hire a Gondola for an hour, an extravagance but this is Venice! Evening departure on the overnight ‘Artesia’ train to Paris with London connection arriving back at around 12 noon next day.
