sitges

Sitges

Pearl of the Costa Dorada

Sitges nestles between small mountains and the Mediterranian sea just 30 minutes from Barcelona by train. It is a small walkable town that offers the visitor lovely sandy beaches and some culture thrown in for good measure. There are easy walks into the mountains and if that is too much there is a good golf course at the southern end of the beaches.
If you fancy a break from beach life there are three small museums but the opening hours are a bit erratic (don’t forget people still have their siestas every afternoon!). The narrow winding streets of the old town offer the chance to explore the shops between beach visits. A promenade runs along the seafront affording the chance to walk off a good dinner.
In the local museums you can see art works by Santiago Rusiñol and his circle of friends. Also contained within the museum is the world’s largest collection of wrought iron! The other museums contain a collection of medieval

art, furniture and local artist’s works from the Romantic to 20th Century. There is all the nightlife you could ever want to suit every taste. For the serious clubber some are open until 9 a.m. – now that’s serious clubbing!
The cuisine of Sitges is Catalan which is slightly different to the rest of Spain. Locally grown produce is beautifully prepared and is best accompanied by the local wine Penedes. You will find Sitges a very cultured yet laid back seaside town conveniently situated for excursions to Barcelona and other nearby resorts. The 4* Calipolis has an unrivalled location near the centre of town overlooking the sea, the smaller 4* La Nina opened 3 years ago on the seafront now has an enviable reputation.
